Learning Support Assistant

Salary:  £18,000 per annum/pro rata

Hours: 3 days per week (Monday – Wednesday 8.30am – 4.30pm), term time only (40 weeks per year)

Location: Hitchin, Hertfordshire

Contract: Fixed term contract up to 31st August 2020 with the possibility of an extension

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and committed Learning Support Assistant who would welcome the opportunity to work at our Hitchin centre, providing 1:1 support to a high needs learner with Horticulture, English, Maths and Employability, as well as many other aspects of life at Develop.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting the classroom tutor
  • Working with small groups and 1:1 support
  • Supporting literacy, numeracy and vocational subjects lessons
  • Help manage pupil behaviour
  • Help pupils to access the curriculum
  • Support students on their work experience
  • Be able to use a PC effectively and have good knowledge with using Microsoft e.g. word

The successful candidate must be able to deal with challenging behaviour and be able to calm the learner down when upset.   The Learning Support Assistant must be able to build a rapport with this learner to help them engage in tasks and lessons and discover new hobbies.   A ‘can do’ attitude is essential, day to day tasks vary from working outside at our farm facility on the Horticulture course to supporting in Maths and English lessons.

You will be tasked with improving learner’s confidence, communication skills, independence skills and social abilities.

Previous experience in a school or education setting working with high needs learners is essential.

IT Tutor

Develop Hitchin is a newly refurbished centre, delivering full and part time study programmes for 16-18 year olds and 19-24 year olds with an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP).  Each course is designed around individual needs including IT qualifications at Level 1 and 2, Careers Advice and Guidance, Functional Skills and GCSE resits in English and Maths and Work Experience.

We are looking for an experienced and motivated IT Tutor to join our small team of professionals committed to improving opportunities for young people.  You will deliver IT user, Creative Media and Principles and Systems at Level 1 and 2 to predominantly 16 – 19 year old learners.

The successful candidate:

  • The ideal candidate would be a qualified and experienced tutor however we are willing to train the right candidate with relevant industry experience.
  • Experience in working with learners with SEND would be beneficial but training will be given.

Internal Quality Assurer (IQA) Roles

Salary: £125.00 per day

Hours: Approximately 6 days over the academic year

Location: Bedfordshire and Norwich

We are looking for experienced IQAs in the following areas:

  • Hair and Beauty (Bedford)
  • Childcare (Bedford)
  • ITQ (Bedford, Dunstable, Norwich)
  • Employability (Bedford, Norwich)
  • Home Cooking (Dunstable)

This is a great opportunity for an experienced IQA to work on a self-employed basis or zero hours contract to carry out interim and final IQA (portfolio sampling, assessor observations, learner interviews and standardisation meetings) and to meet with the EQA on their annual visit.

The workload for the IQA is very desirable with less than 10 portfolios per subject.

Both positions will be supported by the Curriculum Coordinator, Quality Coordinator and Heads of Centre.

About the successful candidate:

  • Competent in the subject area
  • Appropriate Internal Quality Assurance or Internal Verifier qualification (V1/TAQA, or equivalent)
  • Qualification at a minimum Level 2 in the subject area being IQA’d.

Time commitment – 4 Board meetings annually plus attendance at quality improvement group (QIG)

We are looking for a new Board member to compliment our existing board of 6 members.   Experience of financial planning and financial management in the not-for-profit sector is essential, preferably with an understanding of educational funding.   An understanding of the barriers young people and disadvantaged individuals face would be beneficial.

Your proven skills and knowledge will assist the organisation to strategically plan financially to support its growth strategy.
