Careers Inspiration is about enabling young people to make informed careers decisions based on inspiring careers guidance. It is designed to support young people by increasing their awareness and understanding of the world of work whilst raising their aspirations for the future through engagement with inspirational employers. The aim is to equip young people with the ability to identify their own skills, achievements and experience and link these to their chosen careers.
Students from First Place Training (now Develop), Bedford, braved the -18 degrees freezer at the ASDA distribution centre to learn more about the logistics and distribution sector. The group included 12 local young people (16 – 18 years) from Bedford who have enrolled on the Study Programme with First Place Training Centre. They will be studying for a range of qualifications which include: ITQ, Child Care, Health and Social Care, Customer Service and Employability Skills. Each student will take up a meaningful work experience placement with local employers to aid their personal development and prepare them for the working world.
The students met with Clive Bowen – Training Manager for ASDA CDC Bedford and completed a tour of the chilled/freezer centre. Whilst there they learned more about ASDA’s recruitment process, apprenticeship and graduate programme opportunities, as well as taking part in some assessment centre (selection process) activities. They had great fun and gained a fantastic insight into what could be a potential career when progressing from their Study Programme.

Please also take a look at the videos from the event, which capture the assessment centre activities.
The student group from First Place Training had the opportunity to see inside the world of logistics and distribution and take a tour of the working environment, watching a range of tasks being carried out. They also had an enjoyable time carrying out the activities involved in the recruitment and selection process at the Asda assessment centre. The group members have all become more aware of what an employer is looking for and the career options available.
The event took place on the 9th September 2015.
