This recently developed course is designed to introduce you to a wide range of computing disciplines. The course gives you the opportunity to build your sector knowledge and learn current skills and practices in computer science, computer systems, networks and social media for business.
This is a (potentially) 2 year course, enabling you to specialise in the second year to achieve an Extended Diploma in Computing.
In the first year you will choose from a range of units including: Principles of Computer Science; Fundamentals of Computer Systems; IT Systems Security and Encryption; Business Applications of Social Media; Computer Games Development and Website Development* (NB: units are subject to change).
On successful completion of your first year, you will have the opportunity to continue your studies and move into a second year, to study additional units and achieve the Extended Diploma in Computing.

BTEC Level 3 National Foundation Diploma in Computing
On successful completion of year 2:
Extended BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Computing (Graded from distinction* to pass. The BTEC Extended Diploma qualifications are equivalent in size and UCAS point value to 3 ‘A’ levels).
For both qualifications, learners are assessed by a variety of methods including observation, written assignments and computer based exams.
This course is delivered over one academic year (September – July) with the potential to move into a second year
After completing Year 1, what can I do next? The Extended level 3 course (year 2) in Computing, apply for an apprenticeship or seek employment.
On completion of the Extended Diploma, apply for an Advanced apprenticeship or seek employment you are also able to apply for a place at University.
