Working with children can be a fantastically rewarding career, these qualifications will give you an excellent understanding of the knowledge and the skills needed to care for young children and practical experience.
You will learn about the developmental stages of a child, how children learn through play, safeguarding, different styles of communication, and supporting healthy living. For Level 2 learners, a work placement gives you a fantastic chance to learn in a real life setting.
You need to be at least 14 years old for Level 1 and 16 years old for Level 2, with no criminal convictions.
If you are still at school you need to be aged between 14-16 years.
If you have left school, you must be aged between 16-18 to start a Study Programme.
Level 1: An interest in working with children is essential. There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification but you will be given an informal interview.
Level 2: A Level 1 qualification or relevant GCSEs.
Course start dates are flexible.
NCFE CACHE Level 1 Certificate in Caring for Children
NCFE CACHE Level 2 Certificate for the Children and Young People’s Workforce (England).
NB: Level 2 requires a practical placement as you need to show competence in both knowledge and skills. If you have no previous experience of working with children and young people, it is recommended that 200 hours be spent in a real work environment.
These courses are delivered over one full year.
What can I do next? From Level 1, you can move onto a Level 2 Childcare qualification or, from Level 2 you can progress to Level 3 Childcare qualifications or a Childcare Apprenticeship.
